The WM-184 cuts enameled (magnet) wire of 0.7–3.0 mm diameter to length and scrapes the enamel coating off both ends mechanically — three rotary tungsten-steel knives remove the paint around the full 360° of the wire, no chemicals or abrasive wheels. Cutting lengths run from 0.01 mm up to 10 m, throughput reaches 2,400 pcs/hour (100 mm pieces, 50 mm strip each end), and the whole machine is a 21 kg benchtop unit.

Key features

  • Full-circle paint removal — three round tungsten-steel knives rotate around the wire and scrape the enamel at 360°, leaving bright bare copper ready for soldering or terminating
  • Re-grindable blades — the tungsten-steel scraping knives can be reground and reused instead of being replaced, keeping consumable cost per thousand ends low
  • Doubles as a cutting machine — switch off stripping and use it to cut wire up to 2.5 mm diameter to length
  • Micrometer heads on the scraping and feed adjustments set blade depth in exact increments, so recipe changes between wire diameters are repeatable
  • Roller wire straightener at the inlet takes the cast out of spooled magnet wire before it reaches the feed wheels
  • Free sample test — send us 2–3 meters of your enameled wire, we run it on this machine and send you the video and stripped samples before you order

What it processes

  • Enameled copper wire 0.7–3.0 mm for motor, transformer and inductor winding leads
  • Magnet wire ends that need clean bare copper for soldering, welding or crimping
  • Coil and solenoid manufacturers replacing manual sanding or chemical paint removal

Suited for: enameled (magnet) wire from 0.7 to 3.0 mm diameter — cut to length and paint-stripped on both ends in one automatic cycle, with bare copper clean enough to solder or crimp directly. Not suited for: plastic-insulated hookup wire — enamel scraping knives are the wrong tool for PVC; pick the WM-167 benchtop wire cutting and stripping machine covering 0.1–10 mm² single-core wire. Multi-core sheathed cable belongs on the WM-1306 automatic cable cutting and stripping machine for Φ1–12 mm cable. For magnet wire finer than 0.7 mm, custom machines is the route — tell us the wire specification so we can assess a suitable configuration.

WM-184 — common questions

How does the WM-184 remove the enamel coating?

Mechanically. Three round tungsten-steel knives rotate around the wire and scrape the coating off along the programmed strip length, working the full 360° of the circumference. No chemical stripping bath or abrasive wheel is used. Mechanical scraping still produces coating debris that must be collected according to the operating instructions. The machine feeds, cuts and scrapes in one automatic cycle, and the blades can be reground when they wear.

What throughput should I actually expect?

The rated 2,400 pcs/hour applies to short pieces (100 mm length, 50 mm strip per end). Longer parts run slower because feeding time dominates: for 1.0 mm wire at 430 mm length with 35 mm strip per end, the machine runs 840–1,500 pcs/hour depending on the speed setting; for 1.2 mm wire at 390 mm length, 900–1,560 pcs/hour. Send your wire drawing and we will confirm the cycle time on the actual machine.

My magnet wire is thinner than 0.7 mm — can this machine handle it?

No — the scraping head of the WM-184 is designed for 0.7–3.0 mm wire, and forcing finer wire through it risks nicking the copper. Tell us your wire diameter and batch size so we can assess a suitable fine-wire enamel stripping configuration through our custom machines service.
